About five minutes into the new Hellboy movie, I realized that this was in fact, not good. About an hour later, I was just praying for it to be over. Unfortunately, we still had another hour to go, all of it a painful and slow slog covered in guts and gore and absolutely nothing else of note.

The Good Demon starts in the aftermath of an exorcism. Unlike most stories that involve demonic possession & the removal thereof, this time our main character Clare misses her demon. Her best friend is gone now, and Clare finds herself desperate to get her back. Little does she know that her small town hides more secrets than she knows about, and her quest to get her demon back will only expose her to the darker more twisted things that hide behind closed doors, and bring them all to the light.

But the journey is pretty fun, so even though you may never find out, you'll have fun on the way.

Disney's new animated movie Moana takes on Pacific Island origin stories in an epic tale of self-discovery and exploration that encompasses a demi-god, a debilitatingly brain-dead chicken, a lava demon, glowing green stone of MacGuffin-ness, and a teenage girl who just wants to achieve her dreams and sings her feelings while staying true to herself.

While Moana struggles with some problems that have plagued Disney movies of its ilk in the past, it still stands strong among the Disney animated fare of all time.

A curse on the village of Porlock Weir brings the plague to the shores of England in the 1300s. But between illegitimate children, religious conflicts, an underground cult, and a strange woman pulled from the sea, the people have more than they can handle.

In The Plague Charmer by Karen Maitland, historical fiction and fantasy blend together in a wonderfully dramatic and very occasionally disgusting tale that climaxes in a penultimate fight ontop of a cliff-face with a tug of war between a sea-witch descended from a celtic saint, a priest-in-training, a bereaved mother, a dwarf, a severed hand, and a baby (not the mother's), all next to the grave of a murderer.
