Hellboy (2019) 🥵 Film Review

Written by Thelonia

About five minutes into the new Hellboy movie, I realized that this was in fact, not good. About an hour later, I was just praying for it to be over. Unfortunately, we still had another hour to go, all of it a painful and slow slog covered in guts and gore and absolutely nothing else of note.

Well, last we saw the gang they were in the cupcake thrall of Jolene, who definitely was up to something...something that centered around Waverly. And now, we get answers, truths come to light, and there's a great big bar fight right in the middle of it all!

It's been a while (well, four months and two weeks, but who's counting) since things wrapped up with the Earp gang defeating the Wives of the Demon Clootie who was also resurrected as the Demon Bulshar, as well as Wynonna giving birth and helicoptering the baby away to safety (it was a hell of a day). And while things may have remained at a stand still in terms of emotional venting about all of that, things in Purgatory are still as hectic as ever.

In the Season starter, "Blood Red and Going Down," a lot of plots are set in motion that all promise a strange and likely bloody mess in the coming season, as well as delivering first looks at new and updated facial hair.

Hereditary 😱 Film Review

Hereditary was perhaps my most anticipated movie of 2018, and while it didn't scare me in the way I think most people expect, it has haunted me ever since I've seen it.

Okja 🍖 Film Review

Written by Thelonia

I had high hopes going into Okja. I really enjoyed director Bong Joon-ho’s previous film, 2013’s Snowpiercer, and Okja, produced by Netflix, promised to be a feel-good adventure-filled romp built around a young girl and her superpig. I even defended it when shit went down at Cannes and it got booed for forgoing movie release standards.

But what I got instead when I sat myself down for an animal caper was a solid two hours of misery and heavy-handed condemnation of the meat industry.

Slack Bay 🤔 Movie Review

This weekend, French people voted in the presidential primaries, something which has resulted in a second round composed of a centrist who no one feels very strongly about versus a nationalist whose existence terrifies me (the more things change the more things stay the same). With that in mind, let's talk about a balls to the wall crazy French movie about class differences, cannibalism, and random levitating people.

You’ve likely never heard of the Radium Girls, but their cases weren't just the foundation for worker's safety laws, they were also at the heart one of the biggest industrial scandals of the early 20th century.

Factory workers who painted the numbers onto clocks with Radium (an element which Marie Curie had only recently discovered), the Radium Girls were instructed to wet their brushes with their mouths, unknowingly poisoned themselves with the radioactive substance each time they brought their brushes to their lips. The Radiation poisoning took years to appear, but sooner or later, the Radium took its toll on all who'd crossed its path.
