🙋 Which TV Show Should You Binge Next, Based on Your Interests? 👀

Written by Thelonia & Tia

We know that in this age of "too much content" it can often be hard to find a new show to watch. So we figured, why not make it easy? Below is our list of recommendations for TV shows you can start watching right now, based on other shows (and sometimes books/films) you may already like. Let's simplify the recommendation process.

Blade Runner 2049 🤔 Film Review

The aesthetic impact of Blade Runner (1982) on science fiction cannot be overstated enough. Though it was met with mixed reviews, almost every major sci-fi film has tried to replicate Blade Runner aesthetically, with its mixture of neo-noir cityscapes that blend technology with automated and multicultural individuals.

The film did however become a quick cult classic, leading to years of rumors about possible sequels (to mixed derision and anticipation). And yet, more than three decades later, here it is: Blade Runner 2049 (2017), taking place, itself, three decades after its predecessor. Does it (and can it) live up to the hype of the original?

The Dark Tower 🤷‍♀️ Film Review

A Stephen King property that wouldn't be one of the top 5 people would recommend to you, the "Dark Tower" series still seemed ripe for Hollywood adaptation. But upon its release, it was met with a widespread “meh” from critics. But is it as bad (or boring) as all that?

Like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had a lot of expectations to live up to. But by keeping the story focused and grounded by characters and tone, Rogue One is a welcome addition to the franchise that manages to create its own small universe while still holding true to the films that came before.

If you asked me what The OA is about, I’d be hard pressed to give you an answer.

A good chunk of it is about angels, another chunk is a horror movie about captivity, there’s some pseudo-science about near death experiences, a lot more magical interpretive dance than you’d expect, and enough teen angst to drown yourself in, which you might want to do once you finally make it to the end of the 8 episode long series.

TiMER 🙃 Movie Review

It's the concept you've probably noticed once or twice on Tumblr and, if you read fanfiction, it's one you've seen repeatedly (or so I hear). The idea of TiMER (dir. Jac Schaeffer) is that people have the option to have a—who would've guessed it—timer essentially nailed into their wrist, telling them the exact countdown to the day they meet their soulmate. Once they've reached zero, the two people need only look into each others eyes, and an alarm will go off, signaling that they've found one another. It's a silly, fun concept with a lot of potential, but this movie doesn't go the Eternal Sunshine route, turning into something intelligent and emotional—it stays light, tries to do a lot, and succeeds rarely.
