en cas de tempête, ce jardin sera fermé. by Coeur de Pirate 💕 Album Review

Written by Thelonia

Soft when happy and poppy when heartbroken, Coeur de Pirate's new album, en cas de tempête, ce jardin sera fermé. continues the Quebecois artist's musical trajectory without deviating too far from her usual sound.

Her fourth studio album since her debut in 2009, en cas de tempête, ce jardin sera fermé. has a similar feel as much of her previous albums, though aesthetically it has gotten a bit more modern. Beatrice Martin, Coeur de Pirate's given name, clearly has some love for acoustic sounds as emphasized on some of her side albums like 2014's Trauma, but also incorporates more poppy sounds that have previously only been occasional in her previous work.

Like her earlier songs "Adieu" and "Pour un Infidèle," the happiest sounding song on this new album, "Carte Blanche" is the most bitter, with similar themes of infidelity and vengeance on a partner who did you wrong. All of them are standouts in that they have a bit more of a fast tempo and a sense of fun that stand out from Coeur de Pirate's usually soft and ambient sound, which contrasts well with the lyrics, which are all about infidelity and getting vengeance on someone who did you wrong (a theme Coeur de Pirate has used in the past, particularly in the music video for "Adieu").

Check out Coeur de Pirate's music if you haven't already, and if any of it hits you right, definitely check out her new material. It's not too different, but it's still solid, and definitely gets you into a specific frame of mind that makes you want to dance your sorrow away and wallow in your happiness.
